Step-by-step

Six stages of custom apparel development and production

Custom clothing project brief and feasibility review at JC Apparel
01

Project Brief & Feasibility Review

Start with the product idea you have: a technical pack, artwork, reference sample, product photos or a written brief. We review the proposed garment type, construction, size range, fabric direction, decoration and target quantity before moving forward.

  • Clarify whether the project is OEM or ODM.
  • Identify missing specifications before sampling or quoting.
  • Flag variables that may affect feasibility, cost or timing.

02

Materials, Production Strategy & Quotation

Once the scope is clear enough to assess, we review material availability, garment construction, decoration, packaging and quantities. The quotation stage turns the project brief into a practical production plan rather than relying on a generic price estimate.

  • Review material, trim and construction options.
  • Discuss MOQ and quantity-related variables.
  • Confirm the information needed for a formal quotation.

03

Order Specifications & Pre-Production Confirmation

Before bulk work begins, the product requirements need a written reference. This stage aligns the approved measurements, materials, colours, artwork, labels, packaging and commercial details so every party works from the same basis.

  • Confirm the bill of materials and sizing information.
  • Record decoration, labelling and packaging requirements.
  • Document the approvals and responsibilities for the order.

04

Sample Development & Approval

A sample provides the practical checkpoint for fit, construction, material feel, colour and finishing. Feedback is consolidated before the next version or production approval, so bulk production is based on the approved reference—not an assumption.

  • Review fit, construction and appearance against the brief.
  • Confirm corrections through an agreed approval process.
  • Use the approved sample as a production reference where applicable.

05

Bulk Manufacturing & In-Process Quality Control

After written approval, the order moves into bulk production. Quality control is treated as a production activity: materials, sewing, measurements, finishing and packing are checked against the confirmed specification at relevant stages.

  • Keep production aligned with approved specifications.
  • Check workmanship, measurements and finishing during production.
  • Raise and resolve issues against the documented requirements.

06

Packaging, Export Documents & Shipping Plan

The final stage covers the confirmed packing method, carton marks, handover requirements and shipping arrangement. Export and logistics responsibilities are agreed according to the order, destination and chosen shipping terms.

  • Confirm packing and labelling requirements.
  • Prepare the documents required for the agreed shipment.
  • Coordinate handover according to the confirmed logistics plan.

OEM / ODM FAQ

Questions buyers ask before starting a custom clothing project

Can JC Apparel work from a sketch, photo or existing garment?

Yes. A technical pack gives the clearest starting point, but a sketch, product photo or reference garment can be used for an initial feasibility discussion. The information needed for a quotation or sample is confirmed after review.

When are MOQ, price and production timing confirmed?

They are confirmed after the garment specification, materials, customization, quantity and approval requirements have been reviewed. These details vary by project.

Does bulk production start before sample approval?

Bulk production should be based on the agreed production reference and written approval process. The exact approval documents are confirmed with the buyer for each order.

What should I include in an OEM or ODM enquiry?

Include the garment type, target quantity, destination, required materials or reference images, size range, decoration, labels, packaging and target delivery date where known.

Can JC Apparel help with packaging and shipping?

Packaging and shipment requirements can be reviewed as part of the order plan. Final documents, delivery method and shipping responsibilities depend on the confirmed arrangement.
