Custom Clothing Manufacturing FAQ

Planning a custom clothing order involves decisions about design, materials, quantities, sampling and delivery. These answers explain how to prepare an OEM/ODM enquiry. Final specifications, costs and timelines are confirmed after JC Apparel reviews your project.

Services and quotations

What is the difference between OEM and ODM clothing manufacturing?

OEM production is based mainly on your own design, tech pack and specifications. ODM support may include assistance with materials, construction details and product development. The best approach depends on how complete your design is and how much development support you need.

What information should I provide for a quotation?

For a more accurate quotation, provide your product type, reference images or tech pack, fabric composition and preferred GSM, colorways, size range, decoration details, labels, packaging, estimated quantity per style and color, delivery country and preferred deadline.

Can I request a quotation without a tech pack?

Yes. You can begin with sketches, reference images or an existing sample. We may ask follow-up questions before confirming feasibility and pricing. A complete tech pack usually reduces misunderstandings during sampling and production.

MOQ and samples

What is your minimum order quantity?

MOQ depends on the garment type, fabric availability, color, decoration method and number of sizes. Stock fabrics may allow different quantities from custom-dyed or specially developed materials. Send your specifications for an order-specific MOQ assessment.

Can I order a sample before bulk production?

Sample development may be available after the design and material requirements have been reviewed. A sample can be used to check fit, construction, fabric and decoration before bulk production. Production specifications should be documented after approval.

How much does a sample cost and how long does it take?

Sample cost and timing vary according to garment complexity, fabric sourcing and customization. The sample fee, expected schedule and revision arrangement are confirmed in writing before work begins.

Fabrics and customization

Can you help source fabrics and recommend GSM?

Fabric sourcing support depends on the requested composition, hand feel, performance and order quantity. If you are unsure about GSM, tell us the garment type, season, target market and desired weight so suitable options and limitations can be discussed.

What customization options are available?

Depending on technical feasibility, customization may include garment measurements, colors, fabrics, prints, embroidery, trims, neck labels, care labels, hangtags and packaging. Availability and production limits are confirmed during quotation and sampling.

Can you reproduce a garment from a reference sample?

A reference sample can help communicate fit, construction and fabric feel. It is a development reference rather than a guarantee of an exact copy. Materials, machinery and intellectual-property requirements may affect what can be produced.

Production and quality control

How long does bulk production take?

Lead time depends on material availability, order quantity, garment complexity, approval speed and production scheduling. A target timeline can be estimated after the final sample, order details and materials are confirmed. Shipping time is separate from production time.

How is garment quality checked?

The quality-control plan should be based on the approved sample and written specifications. Depending on the order, checks may cover fabric, measurements, stitching, decoration, labels, appearance and packing. Required tolerances and inspection arrangements should be agreed before production.

Will every garment be completely identical?

Garment production can involve reasonable manufacturing tolerances, particularly in measurements, fabric color and handcrafted decoration. Acceptable tolerances should be specified and approved before bulk production.

Packaging, shipping and payment

Can you provide custom labels and packaging?

Custom labels, hangtags, polybags and other packaging may be available subject to artwork, supplier requirements and order quantity. Provide the required dimensions, materials and artwork so feasibility and costs can be assessed.

What shipping methods are available?

Shipping options depend on destination, volume, urgency and import requirements. Express, air or sea freight may be considered where available. The quotation should state the agreed shipping method or Incoterm and clarify responsibility for freight, duties, taxes and customs clearance.

What payment methods and terms do you accept?

Available payment methods and terms are confirmed on the official quotation or invoice for each order. Verify beneficiary details through an established contact before sending payment, particularly if you receive a request to change account information.
